XB Pointstream

  • really brief definition
    • Pointstream takes point data and displays it (more on this later)
  • explain XB
    • XB stands for cross browser (meaning useable on multiple different browsers/platforms)
  • link Pointstream and Arius3D to XBPS
    • Arius3D was looking for a way to get their Pointstream viewer working on more than just IE

Arius3D

  • provide 3D imaging service (show a few examples of their work) (asked for video of laser scanning)
    • Matrix
    • cast moulds
    • TV/Movie industry references
    • University/Museum scans (needs expansion on the work they do - looking through their site for more examples)

Pointstream

  • show Pointstream
    • start up program
  • briefly explain what it does (render point cloud data)
    • explain point cloud data
    • explain difference about usual 3D render method compared to point render method
  • show functions in Pointstream
    • turning lights on and off
  • show IE and ActiveX control
    • make sure to have the ActiveX control working on IE beforehand
  • reference that we're trying to provide this type of functionality + regular PS functionality and more using WebGL

WebGL

  • define WebGL as API
  • mention OpenGL ES 2.0
  • describe what an API does
  • make sure everyone understands that it's now a web standard (applicable to important browsers - FF, Chrome, Safari)
  • explain how XBPS uses WebGL (maybe)
  • lead into main XBPS presentation

XBPS Current

  • reiterate what Pointstream does
  • show how XBPS emulates that (need demo for this, preferably one with lights that go on and off)
  • explain features -- needs more --
  • explain setup (maybe)
  • explain file parsing system
    • only uses ASC files at the moment
  • show ASC file

On-Going Problems -- needs more --

  • web doesn't work with binary
    • causes streaming slow downs

XBPS Future -- needs more --

  • wiki page with future additions
  • unassigned tickets on lighthouse
  • detail on inclusion of other file formats (starting with PSI)
  • talk about optimization for regular PCs and handheld devices

<b>XB PointStream</b> (working name)

A cross-browser JavaScript tool which will emulate Arius3D's PointStream viewer. It will be able to quickly render a large amount of point cloud data to the &lt;canvas&gt; tag using WebGL.<br />
